Service Project 2007

CAL conference attendees can donate gift-quality books for children aged zero through twelve to help state correctional libraries expand the caring connection between parents and children separated by incarceration.

Please donate children's books in gift-giving condition to the Colorado Correctional Libraries "Read to the Children" program. Almost 14,000 individuals are currently incarcerated in Colorado, and many have school-age children. "Read to the Children" is offered by libraries in state correctional facilities to promote literacy and the use of libraries by providing incarcerated parents the opportunity to participate in their children's lives through the use of audio media and children's literature.

Donations will be accepted in the CAL Conference office near the registration desk. For more information, or to make direct donations, please contact Teresa Allen at 303/866-6727 or allen_t@cde.state.co.us.

Call for Poster Session Proposals

CAL Poster Sessions will be offered in several sessions on Friday and Saturday. Each participant (limited to 20 participants per session) will have a six foot table. You may use the table to display a poster board (free standing; available in colors for about $10 at office supply stores) or any other appropriate display you can fit on the table. No equipment will be provided, but you may bring your own. You may be able to reach an electrical outlet with an extension cord.

Generally attendees browse through the tables then pick up handouts and stop to visit when a topic catches their interest. It is a good way to be exposed to a lot of information in a short time. Poster sessions are much like a mini-exhibit.

Participants should be prepared to set up and fold up their displays quickly. In some cases there is only 15 minutes between poster sessions. We are lucky to be able to offer tables; often poster sessions provide only an easel -- thus, the term "Poster Session" meant only a poster.

Propose your poster session by clicking here for the online submission form! The deadline for submission is August 31, 2007.

Summer Reading Program Swap

Are you proud of your Summer Reading Program?
Of course you are!

Would you like to share your materials with others at the CAL Conference in November?
Of course you would!

Please take this opportunity to get the word out about your amazing Summer Reading Program by
submitting an application to display at the CAL conference on Friday, November 9, 2007 at 3:15 p.m. This is your chance to stand by your materials and answer questions and share information about your program.

In addition, there is space in the exhibits hall for EVERYONE to display their summer reading program materials. Please drop off and pick up your items at the tables designated for this anytime the exhibits hall is open.

Please fill in the form as completely as possible. Your intent to display materials must be submitted by August 31, 2007. We hope you will join us!
