Communities and Libraries

Mark your calendars (in ink!) for the 2008 Colorado Association of Libraries annual conference, November 6-8 at the Marriott Denver Tech Center. Our theme this year is Communities and Libraries and we are pleased to announce that this will be CAL’s first ever “green” conference.

The success of the annual CAL conference depends on the participation of everyone in our library community. It’s still early in the year, but we’re already pooling statewide resources, expertise, and energy. Consider what YOU are willing contribute to the Colorado library community of patron services providers; children’s and outreach services specialists; cataloging, resource-sharing, and technical experts; IT and HR administrators; managers, directors, and board members. We invite everyone to step up and make this year’s conference the best yet!

Take some time to look at your communities with fresh eyes and notice the impact your library has on education, economic development, and the revitalization of the community. Notice, too, the opportunities for growth and impact in which our libraries can take part. The work you do has a profound effect on creating the community you are part of. Come to CAL 2008 and share your stories!

How To Be A "Green" Attendee

  • Ride the rails: Take public transportation. There is a light-rail stop, Belleview Station, on the E Line , just two blocks from the conference hotel.
  • Find a friend and share a ride: If you drive, try to carpool
  • BYOB (Bring Your Own Water Bottle): There will be no bottles of water available at the conference (but there will be 5-gallon jugs of water and paper cups).
  • Handouts: We hope to have no paper handouts, and are encouraging our presenters to post their handouts to the CAL Web site.
  • Recycle: Recycling bins will be available throughout the hotel; we hope you will use them.
More information about how this event will be environmentally friendly will be available here as it develops.
