CAL Membership
Michele Seipp, Director, Lafayette Public Library

I belong to CAL as much for what I get as for the fact that without the collective power of organizations like CAL libraries would fizzle into nothingness.

These are my selfish reasons for needing CAL:
I am someone who thrives when working with others. Regardless of how much I like the people in my own library, I am always on the lookout for different people and new ideas, and CAL is a logical source. CAL gives me ENERGY - it’s a wonderful pool of new people and rejuvenation that I can draw from as needed.

CAL is a great reason to get out of the building. I’d go both batty and stale if I were confined to my own library. Getting caught up in committee work or CAL projects keeps my professional life interesting.

There are times when I’ve needed particular help to get me through a tight spot in my job - maybe a fresh idea, or maybe the wisdom and calm advice of more experienced folks. My CAL connections have always turned up the perfect person to help me at the moment.

If arguments about joining CAL for the greater good of libraries don’t convince you - at least join for your own sanity and well-being.
