Advocate
CAL is a strong voice for libraries at the state and local levels. Through our Legislative Committee and professional lobbyist, we advocate for policies that support library funding, intellectual freedom, and equitable access to information.
How you can get involved:
-
Complete this pledge form to take part in Library Advocacy Day, which will be scheduled for March 2026.
-
Sign up for the Colorado Library Advocacy League to receive monthly action items. There are 4 roles to choose from, allowing you to give a few minutes a month or make a larger time commitment.
-
Donate to the Colorado Libraries PAC on PayPal. We use PAC funds to support our annual Library Day at the Capitol, which includes food to attract legislators to our table. We also give a donation to the Legislator of the Year, if our funds allow.
-
CAL members are welcome to join the Legislative Committee's monthly meetings
Our Priorities for 2026
- Advocate for preserving existing levels of state funding for libraries and library services in Colorado.
- Build coalitions of awareness and support around issues facing Colorado libraries, including:
- Existing systems of pricing and/or licensing of digital content such as e-books and e-audiobooks;
- Vulnerability of public library services to political/ideological influence through trustee selection/appointment; and
- Inequitable library resources and services for students in Colorado public schools.
- Monitor legislative activity of the General Assembly, supporting legislation that would advance library services and access for Coloradans, and opposing legislation that would hinder library services or access.
