Mentorship Interest Group (MIG) Purpose

The CAL Mentorship Interest Group (MIG) is dedicated to facilitating mentorship programs for interested and motivated library staff throughout Colorado. This interest group is committed to increasing diversity in library leadership, and fostering equity, diversity and inclusion by empowering library workers, library administrators, and information professionals from marginalized and underrepresented groups to connect with each other and share professional knowledge and experience for career growth. 

The Mentorship Interest Group shall connect motivated Colorado library staff and/or MLS students with experienced Colorado library professionals and leaders to provide motivation, support, resources, and networking for career growth and professional development.

Objectives

  • Foster diversity in leadership in the Colorado library community
  • Establish both formal and informal mentorship experiences, based upon participant need
  • Expand the understanding of barriers for career and professional growth for library professionals from underrepresented and minority groups
  • Promote a culture of inclusion and equity
  • Share mentoring best practices with the larger Colorado library community
